We hope that this list helps narrow down some of the options, and maybe it will encourage some of you to try something new this Valentines Day in Cleveland, cheers!

Cleveland Restaurant Destinations on Valentines Day

WILD MANGO, 362 Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted; 440-979-1888 - Warm, rich colors, subdued lighting, curtained seating areas... plus an interesting Asian-influenced menu that won't break the bank if you're young and in love.

VELVET TANGO ROOM, 2095 Columbus Road, Cleveland; 216-241-8869 - Dimly lit and moody, this is the place to go for a remarkable cocktail (hardly inexpensive, but perfectly crafted, fresh and potent) and an intimate tete-a-tete. Just enough food (charcuterie or sweets) for nibbling.

XO PRIME STEAKS, 29425 Chagrin Blvd., Pepper Pike; 216-378-8988 - XO Prime's Pepper Pike edition is elegant and sexy in an understated fashion. So is the food, steakhouse fare done with finesse. For those who want to make a platinum card impression, this is high-rollers heaven.

DANTE/GINKO, 2247 Professor Ave. (Tremont), Cleveland: 216-274-1200 - Artistry - atmosphere, appointments, cuisine - is the overriding theme upstairs at Dante, one of the city's preeminent dining rooms. Downstairs at Ginko, the Tokyo-themed sushi bar, the artistry comes with wildly exciting twists.

SWEET MOSES, 6800 Detroit Ave. (Gordon Square), Cleveland; 216-651-2202 - Young or old, rich or poor, what's more indulgent than sharing a soda or a sundae? Sweet Moses' is a step back in time with decor that's pure old-school charm - with house-made treats (including ice creams and toppings, pies and candies) to match.

TOMMY'S, 1824 Coventry Road (Coventry Village), Cleveland Heights; 216-321-7757 - Maybe it's my old hippie roots calling, but a visit to Tommy's - Earth-friendly, health-friendly, veggie-friendly, mostly-just-friendly - tickles my twenty-something soul.  It may not be moody and romantic, but it's a perfect "different strokes for different folks" kind of place.

GIUSEPPI'S RISTORANTE, 32 West Aurora Road, Northfield Center; 330-467-1108 - Tucked away in a small strip center not far from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Giuseppi's is a sweet spot - the sort of hideaway lovers will welcome: snug, friendly and inviting. Really good food, too.

PROVENANCE CAFE AT CMA, Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd. (University Circle), Cleveland; 216-421-7340 - For starters, the setting is one of the world's foremost museums - romance enough. The cafe food is pleasant, with interesting options at a variety of prices, and you can dine in CMA's magnificent atrium area before or after wandering the galleries. P.S.: Free admission.

CHEZ FRANCOIS, 555 Main St., Vermilion; 440-967-0630 - Simply one of the region's finest (and loveliest) restaurants, period. Although technically closed for its annual winter break, both Chez and its upstairs lounge, Touche, will open for Friday and Saturday service. Visit the website to explore the variety of menu selections - including a special Valentine's Day menu at Touche.

ALADDIN'S EATERY, locations throughout Northeast Ohio -  Think "finger foods." What can be more sensual than eating with your hands? I wouldn't call a trip to Aladdin's "big romance," but for a first date - especially on a slim budget - it's an enjoyable outing with lusty flavors.

DOWNTOWN 140, 140 N. Main St., Hudson; 330-655-2940 - Whenever we've visited this snug subterranean cellar in downtown Hudson, we've felt comfortably cossetted, as though we've found our own hideaway. It can get noisy, but exchanging sweet nothings doesn't require long-winded professions. Speak with your eyes.

DON'S POMERY HOUSE, 13664 Pearl Road, Strongsville; 440-572-1111 - Dark wood, a crackling fire, snug booths... Don's Pomeroy House is a lovely old place - pure cozy charm that provides (in my own sweetheart's words) "a nice sense of just-me-and-you space."

WASHINGTON PLACE BISTRO & INN, 2203 Cornell Road (Little Italy), Cleveland; 216-791-6500 - "Romantic" doesn't just mean dimly lit. Walls painted in warm, sunny colors provide a delightful background to this warren of intimate rooms.

, 3164 Fulton Road, Cleveland; 216-281-0055 - No doubt, stepping back in time holds its own sort of romance. And when the food is as good as it was a couple of decades ago or more, a spot like the original Johnny's - vibrant as ever - holds all the more allure.
